Virginia Madsen in The Bob Rivers Show, May 19, 2008
Oscar-nominated actress Virginia Madsen came on the show this morning (in person!) to talk about the campaign “Freedom of Expression through Film.” As spokesperson, Madsen is touring the country to promote the campaign, which she is working on in partnership with Allergan, Inc., the maker of BOTOX Cosmetic, and the League of Women Voters, a grassroots non-partisan organization dedicated to voter education and civic engagement. The campaign itself is called “Keep the Wisdom, Lose the Lines” and urges women to make specific approaches to aging gracefully along with reminding women about the importance of voting in this year’s election. It was 2004′s “Sideways” that brought Madsen an Oscar nomination, and if you’ve seen the movie you know it’s all about the wine! In other words, those cocktails-and-BOTOX parties you hear about probably aren’t the best idea! Madsen is also working with her mother, award-winning documentary maker Elaine Madsen on “I Know a Woman Like That,” a new film which explores portraits of strong, talented women who have refused conventional viewpoints on life and aging. Madsen’s career began with small roles in the 1983 teen sex comedy “Class” and 1984′s “Dune”, David Lynch’s sci-fi oddity. Other movies …
